Most teaching jobs require at least a bachelor's degree and, especially in public schools, a teaching certification. Administrative jobs usually require a master's degree or doctorate.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2006, teachers in primary and secondary education averaged $45,000 to $48,000 a year nationwide, while administrators averaged about $77,000.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an increase of 11 percent for educational jobs from 2006 to 2016, which is the same as the average for all occupations. Though the population growth is expected to slow, more jobs are expected in preschools because of reforms making universal preschool available.
