Symptoms of ITP
ITP, or idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, is a serious condition that causes the blood not to clot as it should. It is caused by a low level of cells, or platelets, that allow your blood to clot. It is important to recognize the symptoms of this disorder so the proper treatment can be undertaken.

Heavy Menstrual Flows
-
For many women, a heavy menstrual flow is completely natural. Unfortunately, it can also be a sign of ITP, especially if the bleeding is unnaturally heavy and prolonged.
Bruising
-
Bruising is a natural occurrence, though excessive bruising that happens often is a sign of ITP.
-
Prolonged Bleeding
-
As ITP causes your blood not to be able to clot properly, some with this disorder may notice a lot of bleeding from a simple cut or wound.
Blood in Waste
-
ITP can cause blood to be dispensed in the urine or in the stool. This can often be confused with other conditions, but is often a symptom of ITP.
Superficial Bleeding
-
Bleeding into your skin is a sure sign of ITP. It is recognized by a rash that looks like small bruises on the legs.
