Because plants have different soil needs, the environment can be adapted to create the best possible growing conditions. One way to change the properties of soil is by using acid peat moss.

    Source

  1. Peat moss is a created from decomposing pieces of other mosses. Peat moss allows water to be retained in soil.
  2. Acidity

  3. Acidity is the measurement of how many hydrogen ions are present in a substance. More hydrogen ions increase acidity. Peat moss is naturally acidic.
  4. Use

  5. Acid peat moss is useful in gardening. Because many plants thrive in mildly acidic soil, peat moss can be used to form an ideal soil mix.
  6. Nutrients

  7. While acid peat moss allows plants to absorb nutrients necessary for proper growth, it does not contain many nutrients itself. However, peat moss acidity allows other soil nutrients to dissolve thoroughly.
  8. Overuse

  9. While acid peat moss is useful, it can also be overused. Because of high acidity, peat moss can adversely affect plants that do not grow well in acid soil.
