Oregano Side Effects

Oregano, known as wild marjoram, is a wild herb from the Mediterranean. This is a plant with flower clusters and the leaves have an essential oil name origanum. It is used in food and also has some antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities. Oregano has been seen to have antispasmodic qualities as well.

  1. Uses

    • Oregano has been used to treat parasites in the body, bacterial infections, stomach aches, menstrual problems, urinary tract infections and cold and flu symptoms.

    Side Effects

    • The side effects are shortness of breath, chest tightness, problems speaking or swallowing, facial swelling and itching. You need to call your doctor if any of these occur.

    Dosage

    • If this is being taken on doctor's advice. then follow those instructions. If you are taking this on your own, then follow the instructions on the bottle. It can be taken in pill form or in oil form in juice or milk.

    Warnings

    • If you are pregnant tell your doctor before taking Oregano. Also, if you are allergic to herbs like thyme, sage or basil do not use this.

    Interactions

    • Interactions are not well documented but combining herbal medicines with prescription medicine may alter the effects of your prescribed medicine.
