What Is a Jelly Cabinet?
In the days when there was no corner store or local grocery to provide for daily family food needs, people had to collect and preserve food as it became available, for use when the weather turned or resources were not available. Does this Spark an idea?

Jelly cabinets held the jams and jellies put up through canning from seasonal gardens. Jelly was important when fresh fruit was lacking from the diet due to the area, season or prohibitive cost.

The cabinets protected produce (and occasionally baked goods) from rodents in days before refrigerators were widely used and homes lacked built-in cabinets.
Function

These cabinets were made to lock during the times when expensive or rare spices and ingredients of the kitchen might also be stored inside.

There are many variations on the cabinet, which is usually a small cupboard with narrow shelves and a drawer.
Construction

The cabinets were constructed of materials such as wood with iron strap hinges. They were mainly used in the kitchen, but as they became popular to place in other rooms of the house (and to store more than jelly), the wood and finish used became more refined.
