What Is the Summer Weather Like in the Bahamas?

The Bahamas consist of several smaller island chains in the northern Caribbean region. Summer weather in the Bahamas is erratic, ranging from beautiful, sunny days full of blue skies and white, fluffy clouds, to strong lines of thunderstorms, with raging winds and driving rain. It's best to prepared for just about any weather situation before traveling to the Bahamas.

Sunny Days

The Bahamas have a tropical maritime climate, which means that most days are beautiful, sunny and warm. Sunny summer days temperatures are generally in the low 80s F, with around 50 to 60 percent humidity.

Hurricanes

Summer in the Bahamas falls in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from early June until the end of October. Hurricanes form from tropical waves off the coast of African and drift west, either passing through the Caribbean corridor and towards the Bahamas, or across the Bahamas and the tip of Florida, into the Gulf of Mexico.

Rain

The Bahamian summer is also the rainy season for the island chain, with most showers occurring in brief spurts throughout the afternoon.

Sun Protection

Visitors should take care to protect themselves from the harsh sun. Wear sunscreen and cover up whenever possible to avoid skin damage.

Pack Lightly

Because it tends to be so warm and sunny in the Bahamas, it is advisable to pack light-colored and lightweight clothing.
