Life & Death

Carmichael was born in 1867 in Millisle, a small village in Northern Ireland. She died in 1951 in India.
A Calling

When she was 25, Carmichael believed she had a calling to do missionary work. This is not long after she heard Hudson Taylor speak about missionary life at the 1887 Keswick Convention.

After spending 15 months in Japan, Carmichael found her place in India, where she did the bulk of her life's work.
Orphanage

She founded the Dohnavur Foundation in Dohnavur, India. This orphanage was a haven for more than 1,000 children.

Carmichael was also a noted author. She wrote a number of books and many poems on topics relating to missionary life.
