Back Hip & Leg Pain

Nearly 65 million people in America today suffer from some form of back, hip or leg pain. On the average, each person in America can expect to have nearly one serious episode for every 15 years of their life, making it the second-highest reason people seek medical advice.

  1. Severity

    • Although the statistics above may seem shocking, the truth is that in all the cases reported, less that 5 percent are serious enough to keep someone from performing their daily activities. Ninety-five percent of most back pain cases can be treated without surgery.

    Pain

    • Many fail to realize that when they injure one of these areas, it is more than just the initial injury that brings about the pain. With injuries to the back and hip especially, surrounding muscles try to overcompensate for the injured area, placing additional strain upon them. This can create additional pain as well as further injury.

    Hip Replacement

    • The overwhelming majority of hip injuries do not require replacement surgery. However, when the pain becomes unbearable or the hip joint is no longer functioning, the replacement surgery is often worth considering.

    Prevention/Solution

    • By following a few simple guidelines, pain in the back, hip and leg can largely be prevented. Exercise regularly, reduce stress levels, bend and lift from the knees and maintain good posture.

    Warning

    • Most back pain can be treated with non-evasive methods. However, if the pain persists, worsen or spreads to the lower leg or bladder then seek medical attention. These symptoms could mean the spinal cord is involved.
