Flu Jab Side Effects

The flu jab, like all vaccinations, can cause both serious and mild side effects. As the influenze viruses used in the flu jab have been weakened or deactivated, it is not possible to contract the virus by being vaccinated.

  1. Vaccines

    • There are two types of flu vaccine. The first form is known as the flu jab, which contains an inactive flu virus. The second form of the vaccine is administered as a nasal spray containing a weakened version of the live vaccine.

    Mild Side Effects

    • Mild side effects of the flu jab are usually obvious almost immediately after the vaccination takes place. These side effects usually last for only a day or two before disappearing.

    Mild Side Effect Symptoms

    • Symptoms of mild flu jab side effects include redness and swelling of the area around the flu jab site. Other symptoms include fever, aches and a sore or hoarse throat.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Following the flu jab, severe side effects usually occur within a few minutes to a few hours.

    Severe Side Effects Symptoms

    • Following the flu jab, severe side effects can include allergic reactions such as breathing problems, vomiting and severe headaches.

    Guillain-Barre Syndrome

    • The Centers For Disease Control & Prevention has reported possible links between the flu jab and Guillain-Barre Syndrome, associated with a flu jab campaign in the U.K. in 1976.
