Car Safety Seat Law for Maryland
Maryland's child safety seat and seat belt laws were updated in 2008. These laws require some children to use a child safety seat while in a vehicle and all young passengers to be buckled in a safety belt.

All drivers in Maryland, even with vehicles registered in other states, must comply with child safety seat laws to avoid fines and other possible penalties.

If a child younger than 8 years old weighs more than 65 lbs. and/or is more than 4 feet, 9 inches tall, a safety seat is not required. But a seat belt must still be used.

Children younger than 16 years old must be secured in a seat belt and cannot legally ride in the bed of a pickup truck.
Front Seat Laws
