Grants for Tourism & Marketing
Government agencies provide grants to support or stimulate public projects. Grants for tourism-related activities are typically categorized under historical, cultural or environmental preservation or economic stimulation.
-
Federal Government Grants
-
Federal grants don't expressly cover tourism marketing. Opportunities may exist within grants created to protect historical, cultural or environmental sites, and those earmarked for improving tourism-related public services.
Heritage Tourism Grants
-
Heritage tourism involves attracting visitors to destinations with unique historical, geographical or cultural value. Supporting grants are available from the National Park Service's Preserve America program, and are awarded to non- and for-profit organizations, public agencies and individuals.
-
Historic Preservation Fund
-
The Historic Preservation Fund awards matching grants to protect and preserve historic resources. Funds are given to Native American tribes, public and private agencies, non-profits, individuals and educational institutions.
Cooperative Conservation Grants
-
The Interior Department offers grants to private and federal land owners for cooperative initiatives that involve land and species preservation, restoration and conservation.
State and Local Government Grants
-
In addition to cultural, historical and environmental grants, state and local governments offer funds to promote destination-specific tourism that will boost local economies. Check with state departments of tourism and commerce.
Grant Process
-
Grant processes differ per agency and may vary for individuals versus organizations. Be prepared to detail your project plan, budget and personnel qualifications.
