Types of Vitamins

The Harvard School of Public Health suggests that people take a daily multivitamin to ensure that they're getting enough vitamins. Types of vitamins include vitamin A, B6, B12, C, D, E and K.

  1. Vitamin A

    • Vitamin A is extremely important for vision, cell reproduction, bone growth and cell differentiation, according to the Office of Dietary Supplements. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin A is found in eggs, cheese, milk, meat and other dairy products.

    Vitamin B6

    • The American Cancer Society explains that vitamin B6 helps the body break down protein and helps with red blood cell health. Vitamin B6 can be found in beans, eggs, meats and fish.

    Vitamin B12

    • The Mayo Clinic explains that vitamin B12 helps break down protein. Sources of vitamin B12 include meat, shellfish, dairy products and fish.

    Vitamin C

    • Vitamin C plays an important role in growth and development within the body. It is found in citrus fruits and vegetables such as bell peppers.

    Vitamin D

    • Vitamin D's most important role in the body is regulating blood hormone levels, according to the Mayo Clinic. Dietary sources of vitamin D include fish, eggs, fortified milk and cod liver oil.

    Other Vitamins

    • Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to prevent the formation of free radicals. Sources of vitamin E include nuts, mango and spinach. The American Cancer Society explains that vitamin K plays an important role in the formation of blood clots. Dark green leafy vegetables are an excellent source of vitamin K.
