Dumpster, also known as an MGB, or mobile garbage bin, is the brand name of the most popular type of industrial waste receptacle. Dumpsters were designed to be emptied by specifically built front-loading garbage trucks.

Dumpster is a trademark of the Dempster brothers, who patented it in the 1930s. The name for the large rectangular receptacle didn't catch on until the Dempster Dumpmaster, a truck that used a front-loading mechanism, became popular in the 1950s.

The term "Dumpster diving" refers to the act of crawling into an MGB to scavenge for edible food, wearable clothing or other usable items. There even is a class in New York City on Dumpster diving, called a Trash Tour, led by the Freegans, people who want to live frugally.

$300 to $400 dollars for a 3 day rental seems a little steep to me. A salt lake city dumpster rental with dumpster rental pros will only run you about 200 dollars, and that will get you a minimum of at least 10 days. I'm sure it depends on where you live though so make sure to shop around.
