DHEA Side Effects for Men

DHEA is a hormone that the human body produces naturally and is also constructed synthetically from wild yams or soy. Despite its use in natural medicine for the treatment of schizophrenia, signs of aging, impotence and lupus, synthetic DHEA supplements pose a risk of side effects in men.

  1. Types of Side Effects for Men

    • The most common side effects of DHEA for men include a feminine swelling of breast tissue, breast tenderness or pain, decreased testicle size and aggression.

Types of Side Effects for Men and Women

    • Both men and women experience other side effects of DHEA, including acne, hair loss, nervousness, insomnia, irritability, stomachaches and increases in blood pressure.

    Time Frame

    • Your risk of developing side effects from DHEA increases if you utilize the drug for a period of many months or if you take more than 100 mg of the supplement per day.

    Risks

    • Possible risks associated with DHEA in both men and women include delusions, mania and psychosis.
