Laser hair removal is a permanent solution for unwanted hair. It is especially popular for women who have facial hair. However, there are potential long-term side effects to be aware of before you have this procedure done.

    Precautions

  1. Tell your doctor if you have herpes or any hormonal medical conditions that can possibly cause adverse effects after the hair removal process.
  2. Burns

  3. Although rare, burns can result from the laser hair removal process, especially if you have the procedure done by someone with little experience. Do your homework and check out all of your technician's qualifications.
  4. Discoloration

  5. Permanent skin discoloration can result from laser hair removal. It is more noticeable if your skin has a darker tone.
  6. Scars

  7. Scars can occur as the result of burns or from a general over-treatment by the technician.
  8. Prevention/Solution

  9. Side effects can be minimized by avoiding sun exposure until your practitioner feels your skin will completely heal. Do not wear makeup or wax the treated area before the procedure.
