Laptop Vs. PC

When buying a new or used computer some people have a hard time deciding between a laptop or a desktop. Both have many pros and many cons. So how do you choose which is right for you?

  1. Lifestyle

    • Your lifestyle is an important determinant in which type of computer to buy. Do you want to be able to take it all with you, or do you only do your computing at home? Is space a factor in your home or office? (See Reference 1.)

    Price

    • Desktops are generally cheaper than laptops, at times less than half the price. So if money is a factor a desktop may be the way to go. (See Reference 2.)

    Reliability

    • A laptop is much more likely to have hardware problems due to its small intricate design. Desktops are by far much sturdier than laptops. (See Reference 3.)

    Upgrading

    • Laptops can be hard to upgrade because of their limited internal structure, whereas desktops can be upgraded fairly easily as they're more accessible.

    Security

    • One additional reason for choosing a desktop relates to security. Laptops can be stolen, for example, from your car or an Internet cafe. Unless you have a home robbery, desktops are not likely to be stolen.
