Children's Activities for Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments are the foundation of Judeo-Christian beliefs, yet they are difficult to remember. Luckily, many activities are available to religious school teachers and parents who wants to instill these biblical precepts in children.

  1. Parchment Craft

    • Have children create their own Ten Commandments. Tear paper in the shape of tablets, crumple them and soak them in tea water to give them a "parchment" look. When dry, children can "inscribe" the laws.

    Sing-A-Long

    • Adapt the verses of the Ten Commandments to a catchy children's tune and lead a sing-a-long.

    Jumble

    • Print the laws and cut them out. Ask children to organize them by priority. Then discuss what the laws mean to each child and review their order in the Bible.

    Sculptures

    • To build creativity, allow children to sculpt their own tablets with colorful clay. Then engrave the key words of each commandment with a toothpick.

    Memory Game

    • Form a visual aid and recreate the classic memory game. Write out the commandments on 10 card-stock squares, and on the other 10 squares draw, glue or print a photo that represents each commandment. The child with the most matches wins.

    Quiz

    • To conclude Ten Commandments lessons, challenge children with a simple fill-in-the-blank quiz.
