Mustang Vs. Cobra

The Ford Mustang and the AC Cobra debuted in the 1960s. However, while the British-made Cobra ceased production in 1967, Ford still continues to make the Mustang, which has become the company's iconic sports automobile.

  1. Engines

    • The latest Mustang engines could be either V6 or V8 ones, depending on which trim you choose. All Cobras had V8 engines, equipment that Ford supplied.

    Transmissions

    • While the Cobra had the four-speed manual transmission, today's Mustangs have a choice between five-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

    Fuel Tank Capacity

    • Fuel tank capacity for the latest Mustang is 16 gallons. The Cobra, in its heyday, was larger at 18 gallons.

    Performance

    • The Mustang can do a 0-60-mph (mile per hour) sprint in the mid-5 second range, which is the same performance the Cobra could pull in the 1960s.

    Body Type

    • Today's Mustangs come in coupes and convertible. The Cobra was manufactured as a roadster, a two-seater without a roof and rear window.
