Combantrin is a medication used to eliminate pinworms (threadworms). It also eliminates hookworms and roundworms, although this information is not included on product labeling. Combantrim is a brand name for pyrantel, and this particular brand is available in countries such as Canada and Australia. Side effects are uncommon.
Combantrin is to be taken as one dose, according to body weight. It may need to be repeated in two to three weeks. Since all household members tend to acquire a worm infection from one another, everyone may need to be treated.
Possible Side Effects
Most people do not experience any side effects from Combantrin. Some possible effects include abdominal pain or stomach cramps, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache and insomnia.
Rarely, some people develop a skin rash from taking Combantrin. This side effect should be promptly reported to a doctor.
People with liver disease may not be able to safely take Combantrin because the drug can cause elevated liver enzymes in these patients.
