Types of Curtains

There are several different kinds of curtain window treatments, including grommet drapes, one-way draw drapes, cornices and a functional draw, standard panels, roman shades and valences.

Materials

To make your own curtains you will need fabric, hardware (rods and hooks), a sewing machine and an iron. Measure the windows before buying fabric and consider if you will want to line the curtains or not. Lining helps cut down on the curtains fading. All these materials can be found in a fabric store

Patterns

Sewing

Sewing the curtains only requires straight seams. Always iron the curtains after sewing to ensure they hang correctly.

Tips

One way to make windows and rooms look larger is to put the curtain rod significantly above the window, and to make the rod wider than the window.
