Flovent Side Effects on Behavior

Flovent is a prescription medication used to treat asthma. Despite its effectiveness, Flovent poses a risk of behavioral side effects in some patients.

  1. Time Frame

    • During clinical trials published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, behavioral side effects were not widely observed during a 16-week study using Flovent. However, patients reported behavioral effects following the study. This suggests that behavioral effects of Flovent develop after several months of use.

    Behavioral Effects

    • Behavioral side effects of Flovent include aggression and agitation that may lead to increased conflicts or hostility. Restlessness or the inability to keep still is another possible behavioral effect of Flovent.

    Drug Interactions

    • Antifungal medications like ketoconazole and the HIV medication ritonavir exacerbate side effects of Flovent.

    Risks

    • Some patients develop symptoms of withdrawal upon the sudden discontinuation of Flovent, causing anxiety, extreme restlessness and an inability to sleep. It is also possible to experience these side effects if you discontinue use of an oral gluticosteroid medication for asthma immediately before beginning treatment with Flovent.

    Considerations

    • Children under the age of 18 are more susceptible to side effects from Flovent, making them more likely to demonstrate behavioral symptoms from use of the drug.
