Uses for Gentian Violet

Gentian violet is a topical antiseptic spray that can help with fungal infections and minor cuts and scrapes. Always be careful while using gentian violet, as it is potent and may cause drug interactions. Always check with a doctor first if you are unsure.

  1. Yeast Infections

    • Use a cotton swab to apply the antiseptic to the affected area for yeast infections and similar conditions. Do not cover the affected area with patches or bandages of any kind.

    Athlete's Foot

    • Make sure that your feet are clean and dry before spraying gentian violet on the affected area. Do not cover your feet with socks or shoes. Gentian violet stains, and the affected area should remain uncovered.

    Jock Itch

    • Use gentian violet for jock itch, but monitor the affect area. Gentian violet can cause skin sores in areas where there are folds of skin. If this occurs, contact your doctor immediately.

    Mouth Ulcers

    • Gentian violet can be applied to the mouth. However, this should only be done by doctor's orders, and under supervision. Do not swallow gentian violet.

    Side Effects

    • Gentian violet can cause swelling and redness. Always make sure that the area where you are applying it is clean and dry. Wash your hands immediately after use, as it can stain.
