Cyproheptadine relieves allergy symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose, as well as hives and itching. Doctors also prescribe cyproheptadine to treat Cushing's syndrome and migraine and cluster headaches. Additionally, cyproheptadine can stimulate appetite in underweight patients.

Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, constipation or diarrhea, upset stomach, dry mouth or nose, tingling sensations and increased urination.
