Reasons for Exhaustion

Exhaustion is the state of feeling severely fatigued physically or emotionally. It can be caused by a wide variety of factors and is an extremely common condition, even in otherwise healthy people.

  1. Sleep

    • Sleep is an essential part of keeping the body and mind sharp and energetic; failing to get enough sleep every night is a common cause of exhaustion.

    Exertion

    • Physical or mental exertion, especially at a high intensity for long periods of time, can lead to exhaustion. Exertion performed in challenging conditions such as high temperatures or a stressful environment can increase the extent of exhaustion.

    Illness

    • Physical illnesses such as viral or bacterial infections can lead to feelings of malaise and fatigue, as can the common cold or flu.

    Nutrition

    • The body draws energy and nutrients from food, so eating an inadequate amount of food or not getting enough essential vitamins and minerals can lead to fatigue. In addition, failure to consume enough water can lead to dehydration, which can also cause exhaustion.

    Depression

    • Depression can lead to a lack of energy and reduced interest in doing normal activities, even those that previously brought pleasure.
