Bus Safety Rules for Passengers

Many children ride a school bus to get to school each day. Since the driver is usually the only adult present, it is imperative that your child is familiar with basic school bus safety rules.

  1. Bus Stop Safety

    • Walk to the bust stop without running, arrive early and remain on the sidewalk until the bus arrives, comes to a complete stop and the doors open.

    Getting Seated

    • Immediately proceed to a vacant seat, sit down and face the front of the bus for the duration of the ride, keeping all body parts and objects inside the bus at all times.

    Noise Level

    • Talk softly or whisper, being mindful that the bus driver needs to be able to focus on her driving to keep everyone safe.

    Eating and Drinking

    • Never eat on the bus, as the driver may not be able to see you if you choke.

    Exiting the Bus

    • Wait until the bus has stopped and the driver says that it is okay to exit the bus. Walk, do not run, and wait for a wave from the driver before crossing the street.
