Enoxaparin Side Effects
Enoxaparin (Lovenox) is a blood thinner primarily used to prevent blood clots, often referred to as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Post-surgical and immobilized patients are at an increased risk for these potentially life-threatening clots. Enoxaparin is given as an injection under the skin.

Common Side Effects

The most common side effect of enoxaparin is irritation at the site of the injection, including pain, swelling, a burning sensation or redness. Other common side effects include nausea and diarrhea.
Serious Side Effects

Because enoxaparin thins the blood, it increases the risk of excessive bleeding or major hemorrhage. Other serious risks include congestive heart failure, anemia, paralysis and severe skin disorders.

Drug Interactions

Do not take aspirin or any other type of over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication without a doctor's consent. These medications can increase the risk of major bleeding.
Contraindications

Enoxaparin cannot be taken by those allergic to other heparin medications or pork products. Patients with a major bleeding or low platelet counts may also not be able to take this medication.
Overdose

Do not take more of this medication than prescribed, and don't take extra medication to make up for missed doses. Signs of overdose include nose bleeds, blood in stool or urine, and unstoppable bleeding.
