One of the main components of Munich's Oktoberfest is beer. Bavaria has been known for its brewing since the 16th century. Approximately six million liters of beer are consumed during Oktoberfest, and that averages out to one liter per person.
Beer Tapping

To kick off the celebration at Oktoberfest in Munich, the first barrel of beer to be consumed is tapped in a festival broadcast, with Germany's prime minister drinking the first mug. This act is known as O'zapft or the first tapping.

Bavarian foods are another attraction in the festival, especially meats and sausages. Schichtl provides entertainment during the meals in the form of fake beheadings, a tradition since 1869.
