What Is the File Extension Loc?

The growth of stand-alone computer applications and online software has increased the number of file extensions on our systems. Some uncommon ones, like LOC, are used by several, unrelated programs.

  1. MicroSim

    • LOC designates a report that stores the locations of components used by MicroSim PCBoard, which lets you design layouts for boards that hold electronic components.

    Localization

    • A LOC file can contain strings (text) written in different languages. An application uses this file to translate its words and sentences to the local language without recompilation.

    EasyGPS

    • The extension designates a list of locations for EasyGPS, which lets you transfer routes and waypoints from your computer to Garmin, Magellan and Lowrance GPS (Global Positioning System) device.

    FVS

    • LOC designates a locations file for FVS (Forest Vegetation Simulator) which simulates growth patterns through its graphical user interface called Suppose.

    Recommendations

    • To discover which type of LOC file you have, try opening it using one of the listed programs. If you don't have the programs, contact the manufacturers and ask if they can shed any light on your particular file. If no company can decipher file, you can safely delete it as unneeded.
