People looking to enlist in the United States Coast Guard Reserve must be U.S. citizens or legal resident aliens, and applicants must not have more than two dependents.
Education

Enlisted men and women in the Coast Guard Reserve must have at least a high school diploma. A GED can be acceptable in some cases.

Age

Coast Guard Reserve recruits must be between the ages of 17 and 39. Minors must have consent from their parents in order to enlist.
Officers

An applicant wanting to enlist as a commissioned officer must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college, and he must undergo an interview with Coast Guard officers.
Time Commitment

To enlist in the Coast Guard Reserve, one must be willing to dedicate at least one weekend per month and two full weeks per year.
