Acne is a skin condition you do not escape once you are an adult. For women going through menopause, acne is a common problem.

  1. Change

    • No matter what age you are, when you go through a hormonal change, the hormonal imbalance will result in acne.

    Perimenopause

    • Perimenopause is the beginning stages of menopause and is the time when estrogen levels drop. The drop is estrogen leaves testosterone and androgen hormones at higher levels resulting in acne.

    • One way to cure menopause-induced acne is hormone therapy. This is the replacement of estrogen in the body.

    Medications

    • If acne is severe and you do not want to go through hormone therapy, some dermatologist can prescribe medications to control and cure acne.

    • Some acne can be cured with over-the-counter products like topical creams and face wash. Benzoyl peroxide is an active ingredient for acne.
