Signs & Symptoms of Advanced Alcoholism

Alcoholism is devastating not only to the alcoholic and his body but also to loved ones. Many families have been torn apart because of alcoholism. Watching carefully for the signs of alcoholism can help someone before it is too late

  1. Lying

    • An alcoholic will often cover up how much she has been drinking. It is common for advanced alcoholics to hide bottles of alcohol so that it is always available to them.

    Blackouts

    • Heavy drinkers often lose several hours or even days when they have no recollection of what has occurred.

    Hostility

    • Alcoholics can become very hostile when confronted about their drinking. It is also common for them to become hostile for no apparent reason.

    Lack of Appetite

    • Eating often lessens the euphoria brought on by alcohol, so many alcoholics avoid eating. Often they just simply forget to eat because the alcohol is affecting their judgment.

    Withdrawal

    • Lack of alcohol can cause severe withdrawal symptoms such as shaking, confusion and psychosis. Many advanced alcoholics shake in the mornings until they get their first drink.
