Tongue Ulcers Diagnosis

Tongue ulcers, also known as canker sores or aphthous ulcers, are small white sores that appear on the surface of the tongue. They are usually harmless and can be treated at home.

  1. Identification

    • Tongue ulcers are small, round white patches on the tongue that may have a red ring around them. Tongue ulcers may be painful or feel irritated when touched.

    Time Frame

    • Tongue ulcers usually go away on their own within 2 weeks.

    Size

    • Tongue ulcers are usually between 1/2cm and 2cm in diameter and are present alone or in clusters.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Avoid acidic and spicy food and toothpastes containing sodium lauryl sulfate. These irritants will slow the healing time of tongue ulcers and possibly will make them worse.

    Warning

    • If tongue ulcers prevent you from eating, sleeping or talking, contact your doctor immediately.
