Businesses Looking for Ideas for Inventions

Hundreds of businesses are actively looking for innovative ideas from both novice and experienced inventors. While most of these businesses fall into the categories of housewares and kitchenwares, hardware and tools, medical supplies and toys and games, many other industry areas also seek new ideas.

  1. Housewares and Kitchenwares

    • Many manufacturers of housewares and kitchenwares seek innovative ideas for product lines. For example, Bed Bath & Beyond has conducted searches for products that enhance outdoor living, dorm room living and living with pets. Other companies that accept invention ideas for housewares and related items include Black & Decker, Conair/Cuisinart, Rubbermaid, SC Johnson Brands and Whirlpool.

    Tools and Hardware

    • Another area with many businesses looking for invention ideas is that of tools and hardware. Companies from Bench Dog Tools and Fuller Tools to the Lehigh Group and the Mibro Group accept idea submissions from inventors. Bench Dog Tools even maintains a full resource page for potential inventors, including information on licensing, marketing and fraud.

    Medical Supplies

    • Many medical groups and organizations seek new inventions. Medical products, in fact, continue to be a high-growth area for inventions, with companies such as GE Healthcare, Homedics and Patterson Dental actively seeking products for licensing. Some specialty areas include medical imaging, wheelchair lifts and ramps and therapeutic treatments.

    Toys and Games

    • A large number of toy and game companies are also searching for innovative ideas. Jada Toys, for example, accepts idea submissions for new model cars, while Fundex Games seeks ideas for everything from board, dice and card games to outdoor, recreational activities and products. Other toy companies that accept invention ideas are Swim Ways, ToysRus, Wild Planet and Patch Products.

    Other Areas

    • Many businesses in other industry areas also look for ideas for inventions. Some of the more common areas include health and fitness, gardens and outdoors, automotive, bath and home, electronics, sporting goods and baby and child. Another promising area for innovation is that of green products, which can span everything from the automotive industry to toys and games.

    Considerations

    • While many companies actively seek new product ideas, other businesses, called brokers or promotional companies, offer to promote or market your invention idea directly to the manufacturer for you. While these promotional companies can be legitimate, many are not. You should fully research any such organization within inventor communities and with the Better Business Bureau prior to working with the organization.
