Liars Dice Rules

Liars Dice, a popular bluffing dice game, requires at least two players and five dice per player. Players bluff their way through each round. The winner is the last player with dice.

  1. Set Up

    • Each player gets five dice and a cup. Players roll their dice and cover them with the cup each round.

    The Opening Bid

    • Players roll their dice at the same time. Players take turns betting on the total of all the faces of the dice on the table. Someone might guess two 3s, three 2s and so on.

    Bidding Higher

    • Every bid must be higher than each previous bid. A bid of three 2s can be succeeded by a bid of four or more 2s or two or more of a number higher than 2.

    Calling the Bluff

    • Since every bid must be higher, at some point someone must guess an unrealistic amount. After any bid, the next player may challenge that bid, at which point all players reveals their dice.

    Scoring

    • If the bid is too high, such as guessing five 2s when there are only four 2s, the player who made the bid loses one die. If the bid is too low, such as guessing three 2s when there are four 2s, or if the bid is exactly right, the player who challenged loses one dice. Play continues until only one player has dice remaining.
