What Are the Dangers of the Ozone on Water?

The ozone layer is an invisible barrier of gas thousands of miles from the surface of the Earth. Because of pollution and other factors, the ozone layer is growing thin. There are even places the ozone layer is totally disappearing. This phenomenon has introduced new dangers to the Earth's bodies of water. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ecosystems

    • In places the ozone layer thins out and/or has disappeared, the harsh radiation from the sun (UV radiation) can seep in and cause damage to the Earth. The UV radiation, emanating from the sun, causes the water in lakes and oceans to heat up.

    Dangers to the Ecosystem

    • When the water heats up, the ecosphere within the water changes--plants and fish can die, and the ecosystem that depended on those plants and fish can be irreparably hurt.

    Polar Ice Caps

    • With the loss of the ozone layer and the increase in UV radiation, the frozen water at the polar icecaps will melt and fill the oceans with water.

    Dangers to Polar Ice Caps

    • With the rising ocean levels, many people who live near coastlines could potentially lose their homes.

    Land Ecosystems

    • UV radiation causes the surface of the Earth itself to warm up. This can cause water in already dry places to completely disappear. This would be disastrous to animals in the Sahara that depend on waterholes to keep their families alive.

    Dangers to Land Ecosystems

    • Just like in the water ecosystems, once animals and plants start dying, the larger ecosystem is hurt when food is no longer available.

...EVEN MORE EVIDENCE OF UNRESTRAINED IMPACT....ALL of the above listed conditions have one thing in common: Humans. The evidence culminates into the assertion: Human population has outstripped the natural equilibrium. Despite all of the individual actions proposed here, the magnitude of our destruction is too great for us to cure the problems. The most efficient way to cure these ills is to reduce human population. This need not be a deadly scenario, but a shared responsibility. In a peaceful way, human population can be reduced to 1 billion in 100 years. All it will take is a simple collective will to succeed and a single personal act. If we make this choice, we will be the most honored generation of all time. If we do not make this choice, we will be the most cursed. Save the planet, save humanity. It is pressingly urgent!
