She must provide advice to the firm on financial decisions, including tax issues, that would affect the company. A proficient accountant will usually advance to a senior or supervisor position within three to five years.

An accounting supervisor must manage special projects, report to the director of the accounting department, prepare and maintain financial reports and organize the implementation of automated (computer) financial systems.
