Imovane is a central nervous system depressant prescribed as a sleep aid medication. A brand available in Canada for zopiclone, Imovane is similar to eszopiclone, which is sold in the United States as Lunesta. Many side effects are possible.

    Time Frame

  1. Imovane is intended to be used so people sleep through the side effects. Side effects are much more likely if people do not sleep at least 7 hours after taking Imovane.
  2. Common Side Effects

  3. Imovane side effects which may linger after waking up include drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness and coordination problems.
  4. Risks

  5. People who take Imovane and do not sleep afterward may experience psychological side effects, some severe. Temporary amnesia, hallucinations, confusion, unusual excitement, depression and suicidal thoughts have all been reported.
  6. Age Concerns

  7. Imovane side effects are more likely in elderly people, particularly confusion, lack of coordination and unsteadiness, which may lead to falling.
  8. Contraindications

  9. Because Imovane can worsen symptoms of respiratory disorders, people with sleep apnea, emphysema, asthma or bronchitis may not be able to safely take Imovane.
