Renters' rights in Oregon are found in the state's Residential Landlord and Tenant Act. The act includes everything from a tenant's rights to peaceful possession of the premises to her rights in the event of an eviction.

  1. Quiet Enjoyment

    • Under Oregon law, a tenant possesses the right to what legally is known as "quiet enjoyment." The landlord has a duty to protect a tenant's right to enjoy the premises peacefully.

    Alleged Violation of Lease Terms

    • A tenant has the right to three day's notice to correct any alleged violation of lease terms before a landlord can take further legal action.

    Eviction

    • If an eviction action is initiated by a landlord, a tenant has the right to a hearing to present evidence and testimony on her behalf.

    Privacy

    • In Oregon, a tenant has the right to reasonable notice (at least 24 hours) before a landlord can enter the premises.

    Structure

    • Another of the tenant's rights in Oregon is to have the premises in reasonable repair. For example, windows must be in place and unbroken.
