United States Marines Height Requirement

U.S. Marine height requirements are also associated with various gender-based weight indexes, to determine the optimal dimensions of the particular recruit. This is because of certain combat oriented activities, such as infantry duty, where the man/woman-load of the recruit, could well exceed a recruit's own body weight, over an extended period of time.

Minimum Height

In order for a male or female candidate to enter the Marines, the minimum height must be 58 inches ( 4'8").

Minimum/Maxium Weights

For male candidates the minimum weight must be 91 pounds, up to a maximum of 132 pounds. For female candidates the minimum weight must be 91 pounds, up to a maximum of 120 pounds.

Average Height

For male or female candidates the average height is 69 inches (5'7").

Average Minimum/Maxium Weights

For male candidates the minimum weight is 128 pounds, up to a maximum of 186 pounds. For female candidates the minimum weight is 128 pounds, up to a maximum of 169 pounds.

Maximum Height

For male or female candidates the maximum height is 80 inches (6'6").

Maximum Weights

For male candidates the minimum weight is 176 pounds, up to a maximum of 250 pounds. For female candidates the minimum weight is 173 pounds, up to a maximum of 226 pounds.
