U.S. Marine height requirements are also associated with various gender-based weight indexes, to determine the optimal dimensions of the particular recruit. This is because of certain combat oriented activities, such as infantry duty, where the man/woman-load of the recruit, could well exceed a recruit's own body weight, over an extended period of time.

Minimum Height

  • In order for a male or female candidate to enter the Marines, the minimum height must be 58 inches ( 4'8").

Minimum/Maxium Weights

  • For male candidates the minimum weight must be 91 pounds, up to a maximum of 132 pounds. For female candidates the minimum weight must be 91 pounds, up to a maximum of 120 pounds.

Average Height

  • For male or female candidates the average height is 69 inches (5'7").

Average Minimum/Maxium Weights

  • For male candidates the minimum weight is 128 pounds, up to a maximum of 186 pounds. For female candidates the minimum weight is 128 pounds, up to a maximum of 169 pounds.

Maximum Height

  • For male or female candidates the maximum height is 80 inches (6'6").

Maximum Weights

  • For male candidates the minimum weight is 176 pounds, up to a maximum of 250 pounds. For female candidates the minimum weight is 173 pounds, up to a maximum of 226 pounds.
