Cosmetology License Requirements for the State of Michigan
To obtain a cosmetology license in the state of Michigan there are many requirements which must be fulfilled before an individual will be allowed to be certified. For starters, all cosmetology students must be at least 17 years of age in order to begin cosmetology classes. Barbering License

In order to receive a barbering license in the state of Michigan, a total of 1750 course hours must be completed. Barbering courses will train individuals regarding skin care services and hair care, treatment, and designs, for men.
Cosmetology License

Cosmetology pertains to a wide range of beauty skills, including hair, skin, nails, and makeup. One must complete a total of 1500 course hours before being approved to become certified.

Nail Technician

To become a nail technician, 400 class hours are required in the state of Michigan. Nail technicians are responsible for nail care, such as manicures. They are also trained to do nail art, designs and extensions (tips). Extensions are typically done with acrylic or gel.
Esthetics

Before obtaining a license in esthetics, 400 course hours are required. Esthetics involves skin care, including facials, make-up artistry, aromatherapy and waxing.
Electrology

300 course hours are required in the state of Michigan before one can receive a license in electrology. Electrolysis is the permanent hair removal process for the face and body.
State Examination

Upon completion of the required course hours needed, one must the successfully complete the Michigan State Examination for Cosmetology. Your cosmetology school will assist you in this process.
