Red Bumps in Children

Red bumps are common ailments in children. Most have a relatively minor cause and can often be treated at home. Persistent rashes with a high fever are best treated by a doctor.

Spider and Insect Bites

Spider bites are usually small- to medium-sized red bumps and usually appear in sets of three. Other insect bites may be more or less in number and spread over the body.

Childhood Diseases

Fifth disease, chicken pox, measles and the mumps all cause red bumps in children. Each has a characteristic form your doctor can easily identify.

Hives

Hives are an allergic reaction to chemical or food. Hives appear suddenly and should be treated by a doctor.

Viral skin rash

A viral infection of the skin may cause widespread red bumps and should be treated by a doctor.

Contact dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is a rash whose origin is unknown in many cases. The bumps are caused by irritation from chemicals, fabric types, or plants, but is not considered serious.
