According to the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, visitors to the country may stay for up to 90 days in Germany with just a passport. However, their stays in Germany must not exceed 90 days within a continuous six-month period, or 180 days. For visits longer than the allotted time period, Americans visiting Germany must obtain a visa as well as have a valid passport.
