Flucloxacillin (brand name Floxapen) is an antibiotic in the penicillin group used to treat bacterial infections. It is considered effective and safe to take, but like most medications it does have the possibility of side effects.
Some people taking Flucloxacillin may experience nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
While using Flucloxacillin, you may experience an overgrowth of organisms that are not susceptible to this antibiotic. This could lead to infections such as thrush.
Flucloxacillin may cause the large intestine to become inflamed.
Allergic reactions to Flucloxacillin may cause rashes, hives or itching.
Jaundice and Hepatitis
Flucloxacillin could cause jaundice, which is a yellowing of the skin, or inflammation of the liver, such as hepatitis.
If you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin type antibiotics, do not use Flucloxacillin. Do not use this medicine if you have a history of liver problems or jaundice caused by previous treatment with Flucloxacillin.
