Different Italian Foods

Most people think of pizza and pasta when they think of Italian food, but there are many other Italian foods, such as antipasto and dolce. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Antipasto

    • Antipasto is an appetizer that can be served hot or cold. Cheese is an important part of Italian cuisine, so this makes a good Italian antipasto. Other antipasto offerings include marinated vegetables, peppers and cured meats.

    Primo

    • Primo is the first course of the Italian meal and is usually a soup, pasta or risotto. Sometimes primo has meat, but there are also vegetable-only options.

    Secondo

    • The second course, the secondo, is the main dish of the Italian meal. This dish is usually meat or fish. The meat has usually been veal but beef has become popular recently.

    Contorno

    • Contorno is the Italian name for a side dish, which is usually a salad or vegetable, and is served with the main dish.

    Dolce

    • The last part of an Italian meal is the dolce or dessert. Most Italians don’t pass up dessert, which is as important to Italians as the main dish.
