Halo Vs. Counter Strike

"Halo" and "Counter-Strike" are first-person shooters, but the similarities end there. They have different styles of play--"Halo" is more "run and gun" while "Counter-Strike" is more tactical--and the environments in which the games take place are nothing alike.

  1. Story

    • "Halo" is a science fiction action-adventure game that features a full-length single-player campaign and also can be played cooperatively with friends. "Counter-Strike" is a multiplayer-only game in which players are either terrorists or counter-terrorists.

    Multiplayer

    • "Counter-Strike" is team-based and victory is achieved by your group completing a number of objectives listed at the beginning of each round. "Halo" features a large number of multiplayer games, such as free-for-all and capture the flag.

    Pacing

    • Games of "Counter-Strike" are fast, with each round rarely lasting longer than two minutes. When players die, they must sit out and can only spectate until the round is complete. In "Halo," it is not uncommon for games to last 15 minutes or more. Players have shields that regenerate, making dying less common than in "Counter-Strike."

    Number of players

    • The average game of "Counter-Strike" is played five on five, though servers can hold up to 32 players. Halo has a maximum of 16 players.

    Matchmaking

    • To play "Counter-Strike," players must use the Steam server browser to find games. Filters can be set for ping, maps and player size. Third party add-ons, such as sound effects, are downloaded automatically. "Halo" opts for a matchmaking service over a server browser. Players can form "parties" with friends to search for other groups of players.

    Setting

    • "Counter-Strike" games are set in realistic environments. Weaponry is modeled and performs like real-life firearms. "Halo" is a set in a futuristic sci-fi environment. Human weaponry is somewhat realistic, while alien weaponry is not. "Halo" also features vehicles, which are not available in "Counter-Strike."
