Information on Animal Cells
There are two different cells in this world: animal and plant. There are literally trillions of animal cells in the human body and each has its own function.
-
Atoms
-
Cells are made of atoms, the smallest unit of matter.
Parts
-
The cell is composed of three parts: The nucleus is the brain and holds the DNA that stores genetic information; the cytoplasm, a mixture of chemicals and water that holds all of the cell parts, except the nucleus, and the cell membrane, which surrounds the cytoplasm and holds it together.
-
Nutrition
-
Animal cells cannot make their own food as plant cells do. Instead, they draw nutrition from the foods eaten.
Life Span
-
White blood cells live for an average of 13 days, while red blood cells can live up to 120 days.
Replacement
-
The human body sheds and replaces close to three billion cells every minute.
