Side Effects of Paliperidone

Paliperidone is prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia. Certain side effects are associated with paliperidone and should be reported to your doctor. The most common side effects are related to your nervous, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

  1. Nervous System

    • According to drugs.com, approximately 14 percent of paliperidone users experience frequent headaches, making this the most common side effect. Other side effects of the nervous system include dizziness, seizures, hyperkinesia, extrapyramidal disorder, Parkinsonism, akathisia and dyskinesia.

    Gastrointestinal

    • Taking paliperidone may cause nausea, abdominal pain, swollen tongue, dry mouth, increased saliva production and dyspepsia.

    Cardiovascular

    • Cardiovascular side effects of paliperidone may include hypotension, hypertension, tachycardia, atrioventricular blockage, bundle branch blockage, sinus arrhythmia and bradycardia.

    Respiratory

    • Roughly 3 percent of paliperidone users suffer from frequent cough, according to drugs.com.

    Psychiatric

    • According to drugs.com, about 9 percent of people who take paliperidone experience anxiety. Also, in rare cases, you may experience confusion.

    Other Side Effects

    • Other side effects of paliperidone may include edema, fatigue, back pain, weight gain, blurred vision and pyrexia.
