Types of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a form of complementary medicine involving aromatic scents. Some of the most often used types of aromatherapy include massage or inhalation using plant based essential oils, specifically chosen for the needs of each client.

  1. Cosmetic Aromatherapy

    • The essential oils from plants are used in products for the face, body and skin as well as being ingredients in bath and hair care products. These aromatherapy oils are beneficial in cleansing and toning the skin in addition to moisturizing dry skin.

    Massage Aromatherapy

    • Essential oils are added to massage lotions to be worked deeply into your skin during a massage. Your aromatherapist or massage therapist can help you to determine which oils will be most beneficial for you.

    Olfactory Aromatherapy

    • The aromatic essential oils are inhaled directly during this treatment to help relieve stress, encourage balance within the body and promote self-healing.

    Medical Aromatherapy

    • A medical doctor will prescribe particular oils for a patient's medical needs. The oil will be taken internally, rather than topically. This is the only time these oils should ever be ingested and the doctor's directions should be followed exactly.

    Psycho Aromatherapy

    • Essential oils are used to create a specific mood or state of mind. The aromatic oils are used throughout the room, or inhaled directly, to create a relaxing atmosphere and promote happy and pleasant memories.
