Arimadex Side Effects

Arimidex, sometimes seen spelled Arimadex, is a hormonal drug prescribed during the early stages of breast cancer. Some side effects are associated with Arimidex and should be reported to your physician.

  1. Most Common Side Effects

    • According to eMedTV, the most common side effect of Arimidex is hot flashes, affecting up to 36 percent of users. The other most common side effects include arthritis, bone pain, headaches, fatigue, moodiness, nausea vomiting, and sore throat.

    Less Common Side Effects

    • Less common side effects include back pain, breast pain, broken bones, dizziness, cough, breathing difficulties, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, increased cholesterol, weight gain, infection, swelling, appetite changes, weight gain, and urinary tract infections. Approximately 11 percent of users may experience such side effects.

    Severe Reactions

    • Some Arimidex users may experience severe reactions, including: anxiety, depression, blood clots, heart attack, allergic reaction, vaginal bleeding, and an increase in breast tumor size or an appearance of new ones.

    Rare Side Effects

    • Up to seven percent of women taking Arimidex experience rare side effects, according to eMedTV. These include flu symptoms, cataracts, bronchitis, heartburn, muscle pain, anemia, vaginal discharge, excessive sweating, pelvic pain and dry mouth.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Do not stop taking Arimidex without a doctor's consent. Instead, talk with your physician if you suspect any side effects.
