Wells Fargo offers customers a wide variety of financial products, including banking, credit management, loans and investments. The banking division of Wells Fargo features savings, money market and individual retirement accounts, as well as numerous checking account options with various features. Each type of Wells Fargo checking account offers overdraft protection, online and mobile banking, a platinum debit card, email and text account alerts, and access to more than 12,500 Wells Fargo ATMs.

Everyday Checking

Everyday Checking allows customers to open an account with a minimum opening deposit requirement of $50 and a monthly service fee of $10. Customers can avoid the monthly fee by meeting one of the following conditions in a month:

  • 10 debit card purchases or payments 
  • $500 in direct deposits
  • $1,500 minimum daily balance
  • Linked Campus ATM or debit card

Tip

  • Account holders between the ages of 17 and 24 get a $5 discount on the monthly fee.

Preferred Checking

The Wells Fargo Preferred Checking package gives customers both a checking and savings account and has a $75 minimum opening deposit -- $50 of which goes into checking, and $25 into the bundled Way2Save savings account. The monthly fee is $8 for the checking portion of the account and $5 for savings. Special features include:

  • Interest earned when you keep a balance of $500 or more
  • $10 discount on personal checks
  • No fees on cashier's checks

Wells Fargo waives the monthly fee for the checking account if a customer keeps a minimum balance of $10,000 each month, or links this package to a Wells Fargo home mortgage account.

PMA Premier

The PMA Premier is the top tier checking account at Wells Fargo with a $30 monthly fee and $50 minimum starting deposit. It provides customers with:

  • Interest earned at 0.01 percent for balances $4,999 and under and 0.05 percent for balances over $5,000
  • Bonus interest rates and discounts on other Wells Fargo banking products
  • Specialized customer service team with 24/7 phone support
  • Fees waived on linked lines of credit
  • ATM access fee waived twice each month for non-Wells Fargo ATM withdrawals
  • Wells Fargo remittance service discount
  • No fees for personal checks, cashier's checks or personal money orders

PMA customers with more than $250,000 in balances get additional benefits like:

  • No ATM fees anywhere in the world 
  • No fees for incoming wire transfers, stop payments and remittance services

The fee is waived if a customer has at least $25,000 in linked bank deposit accounts or $50,000 in banking, brokerage or credit accounts.

Opportunity Checking

Wells Fargo created the Opportunity Checking account for customers who have bad credit, little or no banking history, or have had issues opening a checking account in the past. The account has a $10 monthly fee and $50 minimum opening deposit. Features include:

  • My Spending Report and Budget Watch programs to help keep track of finances
  • ExpressSend service to send money to Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, India, China, the Philippines or Vietnam

A customer can avoid the monthly fee by meeting one of the following in a month:

  • 10 debit card purchases or payments
  • Minimum daily balance of $1,500
  • Direct deposits of at least $500 

Teen Checking

Open to teens aged 13 to 17, the Teen Checking account has no monthly fee if the customer chooses paperless statements, or $3 a month for paper statements. The account must have an adult co-owner. Benefits include:

  • Money management tools
  • Quick start guide to understand how a checking account works 
  • Parents have online access to see the teen's account activities 
  • Online transfers that allow parents to move money from their Wells Fargo accounts to their teen's accounts
